Since every page of her books contains something quotable, it is difficult to choose -- so I will open at random in the current book, Gentian Hill, on page 87: "Your own life seems to you like a very small lighted room, with great darkness all around it, and you can't see out into the darkness and know what is happening there. But light and warmth from your room can go out into the darkness if you don't have the windows selfishly curtained, and you keep a brave fire burning, and light all the happy candles you can." And the child being spoken to becomes braver in her struggle. In reading the reminders in this essay on Smallness, i become braver. Thank you for this encouragement.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
