Pro-Life Boot Camp for Teens

Homeschool Connections is very happy to announce a new 2014 summer course for high school students:


Class dates: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, June 16 to 19, 2014
Total classes: 4
Starting time: 11:30 am Eastern (10:30 Central; 9:30 Mountain; 8:30 Pacific)
Duration: 90 minutes
Prerequisite: None
Suggested grade level: 9th to 12th grade
Fee: $60
Instructors: Ed Rivet, MPA and Jason Negri, JD
Course description: Learn the pro-life facts and effective messaging / communication. The course will cover the legal and ethical case for the pro-life position, an assessment of the current legal and political landscape surrounding the issues, and tips on how to best present them to others.
Course outline:
Monday: Abortion, an introduction; Medical facts; Pro-life Philosophy & Positive Messaging
Tuesday: Abortion - the "hard cases"; Legal – History, current situation; The woman
Wednesday: The end of life; Death – what is it?; Natural Death; Removing life support; Removing food and water; Assisted Suicide; Euthanasia; Legal landscape
Thursday: Communication – words have meaning; Know your venue – who is your audience? What will persuade them?; Whoever frames the terms of the discussion usually wins; Debate; Writing; Authority; Religion; Avoiding “Mission creep”
Course materials: Provided free by the instructors.
Homework: Reading and quizzes.

Equipment requirements: Students are required to have high-speed internet and a headset with microphone.
Misc: The instructors will be available via email in between classes for questions and comments. Recordings of classes are provided to students within 24 hours and available for 6 months. Homeschool Connections does not provide record keeping services.

Introducing Our Instructors:
Ed Rivet, MPA
Ed Rivet has a B.S. in Pre-Law and Public Policy and a Master’s in Public Administration both from Michigan State University. For 23 years Mr. Rivet has served as the Right to Life of Michigan’s Legislative Director. He has written and helped enact dozens of laws, including the nation’s first complete ban on human cloning, and banning assisted suicide in the face of the assault on human life by Jack Kevorkian and Geoffrey Fieger. Mr. Rivet has done countless media interviews, appearing in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, plus live interviews on CNN and Good Morning America. Mr. Rivet teaches government for Homeschool Connections.

Jason Negri, JD
Mr. Negri has his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Franciscan University of Steubenville, and his law degree from Ave Maria School of Law. He was a member of Ave Maria Law School’s inaugural class of 2003, and is now a practicing attorney in Michigan. He is also Assistant Director of the Patients Rights Council, a non-profit group devoted to end-of-life medical ethics and is an elected Trustee of Hamburg Township. He and his wife Samantha homeschool their children. Mr. Negri has taught on the high school, college, and graduate level. Mr. Negri teaches law and government for Homeschool Connections.
